Because Goodwill’s got ‘em. Great prices, too.
I didn’t need a huge computer, but I did need a s mall monitor for the kitchen computer. Only cost $25. I know, it’s not widescreen, but it fits better in the space, and the taller format is good for reading recipes.

The only thing more depressing is a garage sale when you don’t have the extra space.

Update: you should probably send this to some F-22 engineers. They are probably looking for working floppy disks and drives.

I miss the early days of flat panel monitors when they all rotated and could be used vertically.
Perfect for coding, recipes, and watching most dumbasses’ YouTube videos because they filmed them in portrait.

Its actually pretty nice having one there. Very handy for recipes and the family calendar. And Oppo when I’m working in the kitchen.

I know, it’s just, had you told 10 yo Skyfire I’d not only have a computer, I could have one in my room, the living room, and the kitchen?

Fun fact, I learned Ada once. Not sure if it was for an F-22 related project as it was nearly immediately canned. I have since forgotten pretty much all Ada. Apparently it doesn’t matter how precise and elegant your language is if no one knows it.

Sounds like Danish

Ada (after Ada Lovelace ) is a programming language designed for the US Department of Defense (by a Frenchman) in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. It has a bunch of pretty good features. In 1991 DoD mandated it be used for all new programs. In 1996 they killed the mandate because practically no one actually used Ada outside of DoD projects which meant lots of amateurish code, and difficulty using any COTS software. It’s largely fallen into (further) obscurity, but is still used for some safety-critical applications.

My local thrift store os great with lcd mobitors and tv prices. I bought 2 27" 1080p monitors for $20 each and a few 24 inchers previously for $12 . once they had a working core i7 dell desktop for 6.99! But they seem to check computers and price them closer to market now lol.
